WHAT ARE THEY?

A curse is a force working against a person or a group of people. It is a sentence calling for punishment, injury, or destruction on a person, place, or thing. It is a satanic mandate given to demons to cause havoc on a person, place, or thing. A curse is a vehicle of evil supernatural powers which can be transferred and can continue from generation to generation.

The presence of some one with a curse in any gathering or meeting generates extreme hatred or resentment towards him/her.

It is being robbed of the blessings you are entitled to. It is also a profitless hard work. A curse is experiencing setbacks. It is when people have no desire to help you. With a curse, one attracts no favor from God or fellow men anywhere he goes.

The purpose of a curse is to cause injury and destruction, at times to the point of death.

However, in Gal 3:13, we find that Jesus gave his disciples powers to break curses, but Christians suffer from curses due to ignorance.

Hos 4:6a – “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.”

You cannot fight and win a battle you ARE ignorant about.

Isaiah 5:13-14 –
” Therefore my people have gone into captivity,
Because they have no knowledge;
Their honorable men are famished,
And their multitude dried up with thirst.
Therefore Sheol has enlarged itself
And opened its mouth beyond measure;
Their glory and their multitude and their pomp,
And he who is jubilant, shall descend into it.”

The above scripture says people will suffer and eventually be taken into captivity, if they continue in ignorance and sin. Most people foolishly argue that God will not hold them responsible for something they are ignorant about. Ignorance of something does not mean it doesn’t exist.

A sister had a problem with settling down in marriage. Through inquiring prayer, God revealed to her what had happened when she was still in the world. She had promised a man a hand in marriage, but was caught by the same man in fornication, upon which this man laid a curse on her life by saying, “Over my dead body will you see another man to marry you.”

Truly, 21 years back! Now she is 42. No man has ever told her, “Oh! I love you,” or even propose marriage to her. Eventually, this man got born again and married, while this sister, though also born again, is still struggling with a pattern of setbacks.

FACTS ABOUT CURSES.

An undeserved curse will not come upon one, unless he tolerates it. But when there is a reason the curse will surely come over him.

Prov 26:2 – ” Like a flitting sparrow, like a flying swallow, so a curse without cause shall not alight.”

A brother told me that his former girl friend, whom he decided to put aside in order to walk well with God, and to concentrate and serve his God, had threatened to pronounce a curse over his life on a shrine.

I told him that as long as he had not promised to marry her, nothing will ever happen to him. The girl went ahead and visited a shrine and constructed an evil alter upon, which she summoned this brother for punishment. Amazingly, she died on spot as she made her incantations on this wicked alter.

For every curse operating in life or place, there is a demon attached to it, which will make sure terrible things happen to the cursed person unless this curse is broken. It will continue to operate from generation to generation. An undeserved curse, will return back to the sender.

For complete deliverance from curses, there must be a complete repentance.

A curse, cannot affect God’s child in obedience. It is a spiritual program, and seriously, requires a spiritual solution. It can be acquired unconsciously.

Any one cursing whom God has blessed, is himself subject to a curse from God.

A person operating from a curse life, may find it hard to make any progress in life, e.g., if he is looking for a job, demons will ensure that he doesn’t get one. If he does however, they will ensure that he is sacked.

Curses come from three sources – God, Satan, and man.

A man can stand in the place of God and pronounce curses. Likewise he can stand as the devil’s advocate and do the same.

God’s curse can’t be broken from a sinful life unless sins are repented. Any person trying to cancel curses pronounce on a wicked person is wasting his time, and has taken side against God. Curses from God can only be dealt with, on God’s terms and conditions.

Where such curses are removed, blessings should be pronounced in replacement.

TYPES OF CURSES.

1) Poverty.

A man under this curse is capable of wasting millions of money at his disposal, without achieving any thing reasonable. It is a matter of time, before he becomes poor again. Such a one, when charged to manage a multi million company, will wreck such a company, and cause huge financial losses.

Some people do not fail, until they get to the highest peak. They encounter no problems for as long as they live and suffer in poverty. But as soon
soon as they are raised up high, they somersault and fall down. This is an evidence of curse.

A man, had 260 million shillings on his personal account, by the month March of a particular year. But, by December of that same year, he had only 90,000shs left, without him buying himself even a good shirt. Such people, even though they are hard working, diligent, and industrious, do not make any profit.

2) Marital failure.

People under this curse, will always experience strife and fight in their marriages which most times lead terribly to divorce. I have seen people who confirmed that, their mothers were divorced three times. And they, themselves, are now having marital problems.

Where such a curse is placed, there will always be family discord, and things always goes wrong between husbands and their wives.

This curse, is one of the main reasons why so many brothers and sisters in Christ, are not getting married. Even when there is no obvious reason why they shouldn’t get married.

3) Destruction and untimely death.

This type of curse is capable of making members of the family die one after the other.

Last month I prayed with a brother, who told me that he is the only surviving male child in his family. He has lost even all cousins and nephews. Another fellow also narrated how he lost about 11 people in his family between January and February, leaving only two people.

In such families, people die prematurely, either by accidents, or incurable diseases. In some families incurable diseases like diabetes, HIV, cancer, are as a result of curses.

There is a story of a sister, who lost her mom, grand mom, and elder sister to breast cancer. When it dawned on her that they were all victims of breast cancer, she went and cut off her two breads in order to escape the menace.  But even that couldn’t save her, because cancer still attached her pancreas and she died.

4) Failure and none achievement.

This particular curse is evident, when people struggle for a long time without corresponding results. They try their best, but some how, all their efforts do not correspond with achievement on the ground. Such people, work like elephants, only to eat like ants.

It looks as if there is a failure mechanism operating against such fellows. Whenever such people are about to be promoted to a very high position, these satanic messengers of failure will come in to scatter everything. Such people encounter failures, where others succeed.

That is why, people placed under such fellows are always frustrated, angry, and bitter, because, even after doing the best, they could, everything still goes haywire. Some may even attempt to commit suicide.

This explains why people under curse are often unfriendly. Such people receive the key of failure at the point of breakthrough. It is therefore the time to say, “I am getting out of this situation, in Jesus’ name.”

5) Hatred.

Are you sorry? Does your presence generate hatred and resentment? You may have been in a particular place where everyone used to love you, and all of a sudden, nobody wants to see your face anymore.

What about the husband that you married, who was always dotting over you calling you all sorts of sweet names, but now vows to behead you if you ever show your face where he is?

A brother told me how he lost every good job for no just cause. He said that his boss who used to love him dearly came to work one morning and issued a sacking letter. Even when he made attempts to see him privately, the man ompletely refused to see him.

Three days a go, I had a meeting with a sister working with UN. She lost her job in mysterious circumstances even though she was very close top her boss. All her attempts to get the man reverse his decision was to no avail, to the surprise of her colleagues who knew how close the two were.

This is where your friend proves unfriendly, and you offend those whom you are not supposed to offend. Such lives are void of favor from man. They have brothers and sisters friends and well-wishers, in all influential positions, who could help in times of trouble, but don’t want to see them. This could also be a curse of stagnancy or backwardness.

A sister shared with me how at her place of work, instead of salary increment, or promotion, she is always issued with queries and salary deductions.

These curses have killed potential great men and women, before their time.

(The first in a series of teaching on the Lord’s Prayer, by Pastor Onesmus)

The most endearing and precious impression of God is not that He has unlimited power, nor that He is judge of all, but that He is our Father.

If He is our Father, then we are kin to Him and He cares for us. Human beings not the animals are made in God’s image (James 3:9)

Because of His interest in us, God said to Christ, “Let Us make man in Our image after Our likeness.” (Gen. 1:26)

This appealing thought cannot be enjoyed by evolutionists who think that man is made in the image of some lower animal. But the Bible believers exalt in that man is made “but a little lower than God” (Psalm 8:5, ASV), and that he is a son of the “Father of spirits”. (Heb. 12:9)

By creation, all men are sons of God and there is one Father of all mankind. (Genesis 6:2, Luke 3:38, Acts 17:26)  Exhilarating then is the thought that our ancestry is not from below but from heaven.  Nevertheless, if a man only exalts in his being a son of God by creation, and if he never becomes a son of God by the gospel, he is worse off than the lower animals.

Animals die and are none existing.  But there is something in man that cannot die that is danger of eternal fire.

To be right, a man must be a son of God in two senses, i.e., creation and new creation. He is born as a baby to earthly parents. But he must be born again! (John 3:3)  He must become a new creature! (2 Corinthians 5:17)

Jesus knows the feeling that wells up in your heart when you think of your Father, and He wanted His disciples to think of God in that fashion.

An earthly father would sacrifice to put bread in his child’s mouth.  How much more then shall your Father in heaven give good things to those who ask Him! (Mat. 7:11)

He, being unlimited, knows more about me than I do.  Having counted every hair on my head! (Luke 12:7)

He, who never forgets even a sparrow, assures His children, “fear not, ye are of more value than the sparrows.” (Luke 12:7)

He watches eagerly over me, and at the same time is just as concerned for an Indian man on the other side of the world.

He knows the names of over six billion people now living, and more billions in the spirit world.

He hears when souls under the alter cry to their Redeemer. (Rev. 6:10)

And if every one of more than six billion images of God, who are still in the flesh, were to cry to Him at once, it wouldn’t tax Him to listen to everyone. Nay, He would hear every one with such patience and heart-interest as if that one were the only person in existence.

It pleases both the heavenly Father and the earthly father if a child stops to say thank you. The Father’s great heart is grieved if I leave my room in the morning with out talking to Him, and He is hurt if I brazenly, thoughtlessly try to call out the day’s activities without taking confidence and imploring His providential care.  If you, like Jesus, (Mark: 1:35) feel you can’t live through a day and do what you ought without a private talk with your helping Father, He is pleased.

If you depart into a desert places or walk in a garden, “While the dew is still on the roses,” in order to talk to your God in secrecy, you will receive the strength for the day and Satan will not have as easy a mark that day

As your day “So shall thy strength be”. (Deut 33:25)

If you, like Daniel, take time in the middle of the day to sit in heavenly places with a divine companion, you will be more patient and kinder as the day’s toil proceeds.

If at the end of the day, you fail not to express thanks for your bread and bed, for your family and friends, for mercies and protection, for forgiveness and cleansing, then will the joy of your salvation be restored to you. You will live at peace with yourself and your Maker, and your sleep will be deeper and peaceful.

You have a Father. He is YOUR Father!

That is what Jesus disciples asked Him.

Having spent much time with Jesus, they observed that prayer was a natural part of His life, and it was the source of His power.  It was at one of those times that one of them asked that question.  In Luke 11:1-4 we read:

Now it came to pass, as He was praying in a certain place, when He ceased, that one of His disciples said to Him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.”  So He said to them, “When you pray, say:

Our Father in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
Your kingdom come.
Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us day by day our daily bread.
And forgive us our sins,
For we also forgive everyone who is indebted to us.
And do not lead us into temptation,
But deliver us from the evil one.” (NKJ)

And Matthew’s gospel includes this familiar ending: (See Mat 6:9-13)

For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

This prayer is what Pastor Onesmus has chosen to start with on this blog.  In the following posts he will take each phrase and some insightful teaching with us.  I know you will be as blessed by his teaching as I have.

Here is the first in this series:

OUR FATHER.
